Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek ἀρχαιολογία (arkhaiología, antiquarian lore, ancient legends, history), from ἀρχαῖος (arkhaîos, primal, old, ancient) and λόγος (lógos, speech, oration, study). It contains the suffix -ija.
