Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *ouṣt- (*auṣt-?, ultimately from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *h₁óh₃s (mouth), see also Latin ōs.[1] Cognate with Latvian aũšât (to chatter, talk nonsense), Proto-Slavic *ustiti.
