From Irish a mhuirnín (my darling, literally O darling (vocative)), from Middle Irish múirn, from Proto-Celtic *mori, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)mer- (to care for), see also Latin memoria, Ancient Greek μέριμνα (mérimna, care).
