axle loading (plural axle loadings)

  1. (transport, rail transport) the weight placed on each axle of a vehicle.
    • 1959, David P. Morgan, editor, Steam's Finest Hour, Kalmbach Publishing Co., page 60:
      Engine designers could and did specify axle loadings in excess of 80,000 pounds.
