Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from a South Slavic language, compare Serbo-Croatian baština (inheritance) from Bulgarian баща (bašta, father, governor, patriarch) which is derived from Proto-Slavic *batę (older brother, daddy).[1][2] A rather late borrowing, considering the preserved unstressed vowel, and lack of rhotacism.

Pronunciation[edit]
