Etymology[edit]

Probably from Slavic bezumŭ, compare Ukrainian безматок (bezmatok, hive without a queen). Another proposed etymology is from Latin amphisbeticus, from Ancient Greek (compare Italian bisbetico). Compare also the variant dezmetic, possibly influenced by or related to the verb desmetici.
