Etymology[edit]
From bhang + -meter, with the first element being a pun on bang, mocking the idea that the machine would work. Coined by Fred Reines in 1950.[1]

bhangmeter (plural bhangmeters)
- A non-imaging radiometer used to detect nuclear detonations and determine the yield of the nuclear weapon.
