Borrowed from Latin encyclopaedia, from Ancient Greek ἐγκύκλιος παιδεία (enkúklios paideía, “the circle of arts and sciences, curriculum”), from ἐγκύκλιος (enkúklios, “circular, rounded, round”), from κύκλος (kúklos, “circle”) + παιδεία (paideía, “the rearing of a child, education”), from παιδίον (paidíon, “child”).
