Etymology[edit]

From Old Ossetic. Compare Iron Ossetian да бон хорз (da bon xorz); Digor Ossetian да бон хуарз (da bon xwarz); dialectal дӕ ()/да бан хорз (da ban xorz). The first word is a pronoun; the last word means "good", and is noticeably more similar to Iron хорз (xorz) than Digor хуарз (xwarz).
