From Old High German drīzehan, akin to Old Saxon thriutein. Ultimately from Proto-Germanic *þritehun. Compare Dutch dertien, West Frisian trettjin, English thirteen, Danish tretten, Gothic 𐌸𐍂𐌹𐍄𐌰𐌹𐌷𐌿𐌽 (þritaihun).
