Etymology[edit]

GPC reconstructs Proto-Celtic *ande-nigantyom, from Proto-Indo-European *neygʷ- (to wash), while Schumacher reconstructs Proto-Celtic *ande-antyom, derived from the Celtic root *am- (to wash).[1]
