From Ancient Greek αἰώνιος (aiṓnios, lasting for an age; perpetual; eternal) + -an, the former from αἰών (aiṓn, lifetime; aeon; age; generation) (whence also eon, aeon) + -ιος (-ios, adjective suffix).
