fixature (plural fixatures)

  1. (historical) A gummy preparation for fixing the hair in place.
    • 1862, Edward Balfour, The second supplement, with index, to the Cyclopaedia of India and of eastern and southern Asia:
      The women tie theirs [i.e. the hair] in a knot behind, brushing it smooth in front, and keeping it in place by a species of fixature.
