From Latin fūniculus (“cord”), diminutive from fūnis (“cord”) + -culus.

funicle (plural funicles)

  1. (botany) The stalk or stem of an ovule or seed.
    The elaiosome emerges from the funicle.
  2. (entomology) Intermediate segments of the antenna of chalcid wasps adjoining the pedicel basally and the clava distally.
