Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *gat-, from Proto-Indo-European *gwem- 'to go'. Cognate to Sanscrit गति (gati, going, course), Proto-Slavic *gatь (cf. Russian гать (gat', road of brushwood, weir)). Related to ngas[1].
