great-grandparent (plural great-grandparents)

  1. A parent of a grandparent.

Usage notes[edit]

Additional instances of "great-" can be prepended to the term, each indicating one further generation of ancestry. For large numbers of generations a number can be substituted, for example, "four-greats grandparent" or "four-times-great-grandparent".
