Etymology[edit]

From Old Persian *gauθrā, borrowed from Old Median *gauθrā. from Proto-Iranian *gawθraH (jewel). Cognate with Northern Kurdish gewher, Bactrian γωνριγο (gōnrigo), Pashto غوره (ǧwëra).
