House Number Peru Cusco.jpg

house number (plural house numbers)

  1. The single object or multiple objects attached to a building (or an object adjacent to it such as a mailbox or post) to display the street address assigned to that structure.
  2. The street address numbers painted on a building (or an object such as a mailbox or post near the building), or painted on the curb of the street in front of the building.

Translations[edit]

Usage notes[edit]

When a street address is affixed to a building rather than painted on it, the individual devices which are used to affix an address on a structure singularly, or in combination, are called a "house number" even if the device(s) is (are) attached to a commercial building rather than actually on a house.
