Latin[edit]

Adjective[edit]

janthinus (feminine janthina, neuter janthinum); first/second-declension adjective

  1. (proscribed) Alternative form of ianthinus

Usage notes[edit]

  • The i at the beginning of ianthinus (violet) is vocalic, so the spelling janthinus is incorrect. Nonetheless, it is encountered, especially in taxonomic epithets.
  • Used almost exclusively as a taxonomic epithet and thus not normally in inflected forms other than the nominative singular.
