Etymology 2[edit]

Lācenes (2)

Apparently from lācis just like the term for a female bear. This could be further supported by the fact that LĒL lists two Livonian terms for cloudberry, kurgmōŗa (lit. "crane berry") and okšmōŗa (lit. "bear berry"), with the latter proscribed, which would suggest it is a calque from Latvian.
