Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From lunga (lung) + sot (disease, sickness). It should be noted that sot here is an archaic word for disease or sickness, inherited from Old Norse sótt, from Proto-Germanic *suhtiz. It is thus not related to the meaning of soot, which instead comes from Old Norse sót, from Proto-Germanic *sōtą.
