Borrowed from French muscatel, from Old Occitan muscada, from Old French muscade, from Late Latin mūscus, from Ancient Greek μόσχος (móskhos), from Middle Persian *mušk, from Sanskrit मुष्क (muṣka). Doublet of muszkat.
