openside (plural opensides) (also open side)

  1. (rugby), the space on the side of the pitch with the larger distance between the breakdown/set piece and the touchline; compare blindside.
  2. (rugby union) short for openside flanker, a position in rugby union, usually number 7.
    The openside [flanker] packs down at the scrum on the openside.
