Etymology[edit]
Noun[edit]
prefoldin (plural prefoldins)
- Any of a family of proteins used in protein-folding complexes. A prefoldin molecule works as a transfer protein in conjunction with a molecule of chaperonin to form a chaperone complex and correctly fold other nascent proteins.
- 2015 July 28, Ohad Suss, Dana Reichmann, “Protein plasticity underlines activation and function of ATP-independent chaperones”, in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences[1], volume 2, :
- The same attributes are found in a very similar eukaryotic cytosolic chaperone, prefoldin, which assists in binding cytoskeletal unfolded proteins.
