Inherited from Old Polish rzazać, rzezać, from Proto-Slavic *rězati, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *rḗˀźtei, from Proto-Indo-European *wréh₁ǵyeti, from the root *wreh₁ǵ-. Doublet of rezać, a borrowed form.
