Etymology[edit]
Derived from Proto-Finnic *sapa, borrowed from Proto-Baltic *stabara-, compare Lithuanian stabaras (“dried branch”) and Latvian stebere (“cow's tail”). Cognate with Estonian saba (“tail”).
