English[edit]

Noun[edit]

shoppe (plural shoppes)

  1. A fanciful spelling of shop, chiefly used in the names of businesses to give an air of old-fashionedness.
It's called “Ye Olde Grog Shoppe”, but really it's the new liquor shop and it opened just last month.
    • 2012, Jessica Burkhart, Initiation, Simon and Schuster, →ISBN, page 37:
“Let's go to The Sweet Shoppe—a place you will get to know very well—grab dessert, then go back to our room. We can talk boys, compare class schedules, and maybe do some unpacking and decorating?”
