Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 心耳, composed of (heart) and (ear). Compare Japanese 心耳 (shinji, auricle) and French oreillette (auricle; atrium, literally earlet). See also tâm thất (ventricle, literally heart chamber), Chinese 心房 (tâm phòng, atrium, literally heart chamber) and ngăn (heart chamber).
