Hopi[edit]

Noun[edit]

töva

  1. bone (body part)

Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Same as Old Swedish töva, from Middle Low German toven (wait, delay, obstruct), from Proto-Germanic *tabjan-, from Proto-Indo-European *dobʰ-éie-, see also Sanskrit दिप्सति (dipsati, to deceive).

Cognate with Norwegian, Danish and Old Danish tøve. It seems Old Swedish made a difference between töva and tövra, the latter derived from Middle Low German togern and German zögern.

Verb[edit]

töva (present tövar, preterite tövade, supine tövat, imperative töva)

  1. to delay, to linger
