[edit]

tolu(ene) + -idine

This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term. The etymology is somewhat problematic.

-idine comes from pyridine, according to the feature of a nitrogen atom in the benzene ring, but the toluidine doesn't have a nitrogen atom in its ring.
