  1. The action of seizing, grabbing, holding, or manipulating a given object with tongs.
  2. (colloquial) The action of seizing an object with tongs for the purpose of pictorially documenting the event.
  3. The action of opening wine bottles with port tongs by superheating the glass with the heated tongs, and then rapidly cooling the glass neck by applying a cold substance, thereby fracturing the glass neck open through heat stress.
