Etymology[edit]

Via other Euroepan languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin trōglodyta (cave dwelling people), itself a borrowing from Ancient Greek τρωγλοδύτης (trōglodútēs, one who dwells in holes), from τρώγλη (trṓglē, hole) and δύω (dúō, I get into).
