tubeplate (plural tubeplates)

1. A plate across the barrel of a boiler, containing many small holes to receive the firetubes.
   • 1944 May and June, “The Why and the Wherefore: Locomotive Soot Blowers”, in Railway Magazine, page 194:

     Such soot blowers often have movable jets so that the jet can be directed towards different parts of the tubeplate in turn.

   • 1951 August, “British Railways Standard Class "4" 4-6-0 Locomotives”, in Railway Magazine, page 543:

     The smokebox tubeplate is of the drum-head type, and there are 21 large flue tubes, 5⅛ in. dia. outside, and 157 small tubes, 1¾ in. dia. outside; length between tubeplates is 13 ft.
