Etymology
[edit]From våt (“wet”), compare väta (“to wet”), after French hydrogène. Coined by Swedish scientists Pehr von Afzelius and Anders Gustaf Ekeberg in 1795. Analogue with syre (“oxygen”) and kväve (“nitrogen”).
