Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese volcar (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from Vulgar Latin *volvicāre, from Latin volvō (“to roll”). Compare Spanish volcar, Catalan bolcar.

- (transitive) to upset, knock over, tip over, dump (to cause to flip over, from uppermost to bottom)
- (intransitive or takes a reflexive pronoun) to overturn, tip over, capsize (to flip over; to rotate uppermost to bottom)
