Etymology[edit]

Named after British naturalist Dr. William Wavell (1750–1829), who discovered the mineral, +‎ -ite.

wavellite (countable and uncountable, plural wavellites)

  1. (mineralogy) A hydrated aluminium phosphate, Al3(PO4)2(OH,F)3·5H2O, sometimes mined as a source of phosphorus.
