Etymology[edit]

Uncertain. Perhaps a reduplicated form of Proto-Indo-European *leh₂-, with cognates including Latin lallō, Lithuanian laluoti, German lallen, English loll, and Welsh llolian. Could also simply be onomatopoeic.
