From Middle Iranian *patrāst, from Old Iranian *patirāsta-, composed of the Proto-Iranian preverb *pati- (against, towards) + *rāsta- (prepared). Related to Persian پیراستن (perâstan, to adorn) and آراستن (ârâstan, to adorn).
