From the root ל־ב־ש (l-b-š), from Proto-Afroasiatic *(l-)b-s. Cognate with Arabic لَبَسَ (labasa, “to wear”) and Central Atlas Tamazight ⵍⵙ (ls, “to put on”).

- (transitive) To wear (an article of clothing).
- (transitive) To put on (an article of clothing).
Usage notes[edit]
- The verb לָבַשׁ (lɔvášh) is specific to clothing;
- the verb נָעַל (nɔʿál) is used for shoes, sandals;
- the verb חָבַשׁ (kḥɔvášh) for headwear, bandages;
- the verb הִרְכִּיב (hirkív) for (sun)glasses;
- the verb עָנַד (ʿɔnáđ) for rings, bracelets, necklaces;
- the verb שָׂם (sɔ́m) for gloves; and sometimes
- the verb גָּרַב (gɔráv) for socks, stockings.
