Borrowed from Aramaic חַנְדְּקוּקׇא (ḥandəqūqā), הַנְדְּקוּקׇא (handəqūqā, melilot), derived from Middle Persian *hndwkʾwkʾy (hindūgūgī), likely from Middle Persian hndwk' (hindūg, Indian), due to the heavy use of fenugreek and sourclover in Indian cuisine.
