Etymology[edit]

Two nouns formed with the form of a characteristic adjective from the root ن م م (n-m-m). The choice of root pattern for plant-name is like that of شَمَّام (šammām, melon). Its variation is found reversely in نُعَاع (nuʕāʕ) for لُعَاع (luʕāʕ, tender or fresh greenery; endive) related to لَاعِيَة (lāʕiya, green spurge or sun spurge).
