Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Sanskrit ऋक्षजिह्व (ṛkṣajihva), compound of ऋक्ष (ṛ́kṣa, bear) +‎ जिह्व (jihva, tongue).

  1. A kind of leprosy whose texture is very reminiscent of a bear's tongue. It is characterized by sores that are red at the rim, yellow and black on the inside, and very painful to the touch.
