Etymology[edit]
From 鸚鵡 (ōmu, “cockatoo”) + 貝 (kai, “shellfish”). Compare Chinese 鸚鵡螺/鹦鹉螺 (yīngwǔluó), Korean 앵무조개 (aengmujogae), Vietnamese ốc anh vũ.
