Usage

[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Marston's work Parasitaster, or The Fawne (1st and 2nd editions, 1606). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:

  • 1st edition.
  • 2nd edition – the title page states: "And now corrected of many faults, which by reason of the Authors absence, were let slip in the first edition."

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |edition=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 2nd edition, specify |edition=2nd.
  • |chapter= – if quoting from "To My Equall Reader" or the prologus, specify |chapter=To My Equall Reader or |chapter=Prologus.
  • |1= or |page=mandatory: as the work is unpaginated, use this parameter to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive ("IA") to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/parasitasterorfa00mars_1/page/n10/mode/1up, specify |page=10. This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene number quoted from, and to link to an online version of the work.
  • |act= and |scene=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the IA page number is specified the template can determine the act and scene numbers quoted from. The template is unable to do so if one of the pages indicated in the following table is quoted from, in which case |act= must be used to manually specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, or |scene= the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, for example, |act=I or |scene=i.
Edition Act Scene

  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment about the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
