I come to the conclusion that this is the Arabic native name for the bustard – which should go without saying because of the ḥ in حُبَارَى and because the genus Chlamydotis so called classically is native to the whole Arab Peninsula. There are several other names for bustards in Persian, see Encycl. Iranica s.v. bustard, but this is the Arabic one and there is also a Turkic one. Hauenschild also recognizes it’s a folk etymological reshaping of the Arabic. undo
