Etymology[edit]

Uncertain. Originally a Calabrian dialect term. Perhaps related to Ancient Greek ἀνδραγαθία (andragathía, valour/valor”, “prowess), or to Latin interanea (bowels”, in the transferred sense of “sharing a deep, exclusive bond).
