Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle French Egypte, from Old French Egypte, from Latin Aegyptus, from Ancient Greek Αἴγυπτος(Aíguptos).

Pronunciation[edit]

Proper noun[edit]

Égypte f

  1. Egypt

Usage notes[edit]

  • In older French practice, capital letters did not take diacritics, so É becomes E. This was mostly done because of technical constraints. Formal orthotypography maintains the diacritics.
