Borrowed from Middle French escharpe, possibly from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Frankish *skirpja or of other (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. origin (compare Old Norse skreppa (small bag, wallet, satchel)). Alternatively from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Medieval Latin scirpa (little woven bag of rushes), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin scirpus (rush, bullrush).
