Romanian

Etymology

Possibly a variant of mumă, or alternatively related to Albanian ëmë. Other theories link it to Late Latin amma, itself from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek or of imitative origin. Compare Portuguese and Spanish ama.

Noun

îmă f
