Probably from venin, or possibly a Vulgar Latin root *invenenāre or în + Latin venenāre, present active infinitive of venenō. Compare Aromanian nvirinedz, nvirinari, Spanish and Portuguese envenenar, Venetian invełenar, Italian avvelenare.
